The receptor to cortisol is glucocorticoid receptor.
The receptor to adrenaline is adrenergic receptor.
Glucocorticoid receptor:
- The cortisol is a steroid hormone, it is released during acute stress, exercise and waking up.
- It is produced from adrenal glands that are present in the top of the kidney.
- It is also secreted when the blood glucose is less. It has effects in both metabolism and immune system.
Adrenergic receptor:
- The adrenaline is released during strong emotions such as fear and anger.
- It is produced from medulla of the adrenal glands.
- Its response is dilation of pupils, blood pressure, sugar metabolism and muscle strength.
- When this hormone is released it stops the blood to non-essential areas and increases the blood flow to skeletal muscles.
