The DC motor can operate through self excitation or separate excitation, self excitation can be classified as Series, shunt or compound excitation.

A dynamo is a miniature size of a Permanent magnet DC generator. Permanent magnet provides the excitation; when the armature is rotated the dynamo produces electricity by Faraday’s law of electromagnetic Induction.
