Answer:

If 3(x-7) =24, what is the value of x?

Your newborn may be vulnerable to these 6 serious diseases.

3(x-7)=24

x-7=24/3

x-7=8

x=8+7

x=15

To approach this another way

3(x-7)=24

3x-21=24

3x=45

x=45/3

x=15

Basically, what you want to do is isolate your “unknown” (in this case, x) on one side of the equation, with everything else on the other side.

To do this, you keep in mind that you can add, subtract, multiply, or divide, either side by whatever you like as long as you do it to both sides.

Second, keep in mind that you can “eliminate” things from one side of the equation in a couple easy cases; adding 0 can be dropped as it changes nothing, and multiplying by 1 can be dropped as it changes nothing.

So, if for example you have x+1=2, you can subtract 1 from both sides, giving you x+1–1=2–1, and that’s the same as x+0, which is the same as just plain x, so you’ve isolated x, now you know x=1

The same trick works if you have 2x=6 as another example, you divide both sides by 2, so 2x/2=6/2. But that means you have 2/2x, which is the same as 1x, and we can drop the 1 so we have x isolated again. x=6/2, so x=3
