F) 1) A place can be classified as desert when there is very low precipitation. According to this there can be two broad category of desert: the hot desert and the cold desert.

Example of hot deserts are Sahara desert, Thar Desert, etc.

The climate of Ladakh is extreme, summers are hot and very dry, the direct sunlight falling on this height causes problems like sunstroke, and the winters can be extremely cold.

3) The flora of Sahara desert is like most desert plants. They have some special modifications which makes them able to survive such harsh conditions.

The flora generally consists of cactus, and other thorn plants like Acacia, Date palms, etc.

These plants have long roots to absorb water from underground water, they have special tissues for the storage of water, and they have short lived plants, and complete their entire life cycle within the season of rainfall.
