Handpicking:-this method is used for separating impurities which are less in number and a bit larger than the substances eg:-pieces of dirt,stone etc are removed from wheat,rice etc....

sieving:-This method is used when there is difference in size between impurities and substances eg:-if the stone is bigger than the wheat it is separated by sieving
