1) He rose to prominence by bringing glory to the Chola Empire. HIs acheivements: He began a series of conquests in South India to conquer the kingdoms of Pandyas and Cheras. By proceeding further south, he invaded Ceylon (Sri Lanka)
2)As southern India has an extensive sea coast, it had many ports from where goods where exported and imported. Regarding social condition, the people were divided into Brahminical castes and non--Brahminical castes. Lower caste people were exploited by the upper caste people.
3) During the mediaeval period, most people in Southern India followed Hinduism. They were either Shaivites, who worshipped Shiva, or Vaishnavites, who worshipped Vishnu. The Bhakti movement, which emphasised simple form of devotion towards God, was also strong in Southern India.
4) The north Indian kingdoms like the Khaljis and Moghuls had established effective military and revenue systems like Mansabdari system of Akbar. In the south Indian kingdoms the Cholas had very well established revenue system called Ur and the Vijayanagar rulers followed Nayaka system in military administration.
