1. The causes for the Revolt of 1857 or First War of Independence were:

  a) Political causes

  b) Economic cause

   c) Social causes

   d) Military cause

2. The Doctrine of Lapse which was introduced by the British stated that any kingdom of India which did not have its natural heir the kingdom would pass on to the hands of the British. Many states were annexed under this Doctrine. This was why Laxmibai's son who was adopted was denied the throne.

3.  Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi wanted the East India Company to recognise her adopted son as the heir to the kingdom of Jhansi after the death of her husband. The British however, refused to accept her adopted son as the king and annexed Jhansi under the Doctrine of Lapse.

4. Siege of Delhi, (8 June–21 September 1857). The hard-fought recapture of Delhi by the British army was a decisive moment in the suppression of the 1857–58 Indian Mutiny against British rule.
