Answer

  • Net resistance of the circuit is 4Ω

Explanation

We are given that,

  • There are two pairs of series resistors connected together
  • These pairs are connected to each other in parallel

We have to find,

  • The net resistance?

So here we shal seperately find the resistance of each branches and then find the net resistance

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Case 1

  • R₁ = 4Ω
  • R₂ = 8Ω

Net resistance of this series combination will be,

➝ Rₙₑₜ = R₁ + R₂

➝ Rₙₑₜ = 4+8

➝ Rₙₑₜ = 12Ω

Case 2

  • R₁ = 1Ω
  • R₂ = 5Ω

Net resistance of this series combination will be,

➝ Rₙₑₜ = R₁ + R₂

➝ Rₙₑₜ = 1+5

Rₙₑₜ = 6Ω

Net resistance between A & B

  • R₁ = 12Ω
  • R₂ = 6Ω

Substituting these values in the formula to find resistance for a series combination,

➝ 1/Rₙₑₜ = 1/R₁+ 1/R₂

➝ 1/Rₙₑₜ = 1/12 + 1/6

➝ 1/Rₙₑₜ = 1/12 + 2/12

➝ 1/Rₙₑₜ = 3/12

➝ Rₙₑₜ = 12/3

Rₙₑₜ = 4Ω
