Answer࿐

E. 1. The element is O, because the periodic table isn't describing molecules, it's describing atoms. The molecule is O2 because it takes 2 O atoms to make a molecule of oxygen. These types of elements are called diatomic elements, because the element exists in its pure form as a molecule composed of 2 atoms of the element.

2. Argon and Neon have 8 electrons each in their valence shells. As the elements have the maximum number of electrons in their valence shells (thereby achieving stable duplet and octet configurations), they do not have any tendency to combine with other elements. Hence, Helium, Neon, and Argon have zero valency.

3. The valency of an element is determined by the number of outer shell (valence) electrons. Because it is only valency which decides the reacivity of a compound. the less valency is the element is more reactive.

4. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a chemical compound. A compound is formed when 2 elements combine in a chemical reaction. The compound formed cannot be seperated into the constituent elements by any physical method, unlike mixture.

5. Elements are pure substances that make up all matter, so each one is given a unique name. The names of elements are also represented by unique one- or two-letter symbols. Each element has a unique number of protons. An element's atomic number is equal to the number of protons in the nuclei of any of its atoms.

Hope it helps you
