Use of us, our skin works very well. It protects us from sickness and helps control body
temperature. But artificial skin could be a big help to some people. Artificial skin is made of two
layers of materials. One layer is a rubber like plastic. The other is made from the same chemicals as
real skin.
When would a person need artificial skin? If a person is badly burnt, much of his or her skin might
be damaged. Artificial skin can help the burnt surface of the body heal. Artificial skin is placed over
a person's burns. The artificial skin protects the body from sickness. It covers the body until the
person's skin grows back.
When the real skin has grown in place, the artificial skin falls off the body. Think how important
this artificial skin could be for people who have been badly burnt.
