E. State whether the following statements
are true or false. If false, rewrite the
correct form of statements.
1. A piece of wood and a piece of copper
having same mass will have same volume.
2. The SI unit of density is kg/m2
3. Density of a liquid increases with an
increase in temperature.
4. Density of ice is greater than the density of
water.
5. 1 kg/L = 1000 kg/m3.
6. A ship floats on water because effective density
of the ship is less than the density of water.
7. A density bottle can be used to determine
the density of a liquid.
8. Relative density of a substance is measured
in kg/m?
9. A hydrometer is used to determine purity
of a sample of milk.
10. A hydrogen gas balloon floats in air because
density of hydrogen is less than the density
of air.

Explanation:

1 . Since copper and iron have different density, hence both balls will have different volumes for same mass. Having same mass is not sufficient data to tell whether both have same volume or not . But most of the time both don't have same volume in the case of piece of wood and copper .

2 . The SI unit for density is: kilogram per cubic metre (kg/m3)

3 . Generally, most material expand with increase in temperature, hence as mass remains same, density decreases .

4 . The "stuff" (molecules) in water is more tightly packed than in ice, so water has greater density than ice. Don't let the fact that ice is a solid fool you! As water freezes it expands. So, ice has more volume (it takes up more space, but has less density) than water.

5 . 1000 kg / m3
