In-situ conservation refers to the conservation of any species in its natural habitat without transferring them anywhere. It is also known as on-site conservation and the most appropriate method of conservation.

Ex-situ conservation refers to the conservation of any species outside its natural habitat. For example- storung to seeds, sperms, ova in gene banks, zoos, botanical gardens, etc.

In situ and ex situ conservation.

Step by step explanation:

  • In situ conservation- In it the organisms are kept in their natural habitat. It is also called onsite conservation. It includes national parks, parks, sanctuaries., etc. It's goal is to protect the endangered species. The disadvantage is that the species may also die out due to disease, prey or accidents.
  • Ex situ conservation- In it the organisms are kept outside their natural habitat (artificially). It is also called as offsite conservation. It includes zoo, aquarium., etc. It,s goal is to improve the species or protect the endangered one outside their natural habitat. The disadvantage is that it requires space and doesn't conserve associated species in the ecosystem.
