• Given

  • Dimensions of a cardboard box -
  • Length of cardboard = 1.2 m
  • Breadth of cardboard = 0.72 m
  • Height of cardboard = 0.54 m

  • Dimensions of soap -
  • Length of soap = 6 cm
  • Breadth of soap = 4 cm
  • Height of soap = 4 cm

• To find

  • Number of bar soaps that can be put into cardboard

• Solution

  • Firstly, we will find the volume of the cardboard. [ The units should be same. ]

  • Then find the volume of the soap.

  • To find the no. of soaps that can be put into the cardboard - Divide the volume of cardboard by volume of soap.

Volume of cardboard -

Volume = length × breadth

⇒ (1.2 × 0.72 × 0.54) m³

⇒ 0.46656 m³

  • 1 m = 100 cm
  • 1 m³ = 100³ cm³

Multiply the given value by (100)³ cm³

⇒ 466560 cm³

  • Volume of cardboard = 466560 cm³

Volume of soap -

Volume = length × breadth × height

⇒ (6 × 4 × 4) cm³

⇒ 96 cm³

  • Volume of soap = 96 cm³

No. of soaps that can be fit into the cardboard =

Volume of cardboard/Volume of soap

⇒ 466560/96

⇒ 4860

No. of soaps that can be fit into the cardboard area 4860.

Correct Question

• A rectangular water tank is 90 cm long and 40 cm broad. If it can hold 576 litres of water, what is its height.

Given

  • Dimensions of a rectangular water tank -
  • length of rectangular water tank = 90 cm
  • Breadth of rectangular water tank = 40 cm
  • Volume of water it can hold = 576 litres

To find

  • height of the rectangular tank

Solution

Volume of tank = 576 litres

  • 1 litre = 1000 cm³
  • Multiply the value by 1000

⇒ 576 × 1000

⇒ 576000 cm³

  • Volume of tank = 576000 cm³

Volume of rectangular tank = length × breadth × height

Substitute the given values,

⇒ 576000 = height × 90 × 40

⇒ 576000 = length × 3600

⇒ 576000/3600 = height

⇒ 160 = height

  • Height of the rectangular tank = 160 cm
