Each cell will have two copies of each chromosome, one each from the male and female parents. Every germ- cell will take one chromosome from each pair and these may be of either maternal or paternal origin. When two germ cells combine, they will restore the normal number of chromosomes in the progeny, ensuring the stability of the DNA of the species. Explain the statement

Explanation:

Any cell that's reproduced or present will have two copies of each chromosome(where genetic material is stored along with associated proteins)This is to ensure the stability of the cell This two chromosomes in sexual reproduction is one from the male and the other from the female parents ; from where the cell is produced. This two chromosomes though are from two different origins do the same activity they are entitled to do , lets say for example they might be showing the facial character of a person(isn't scientifically true but can be taken to understand the workings of a chromosome).

Germ cells are cells produced after meiosis; where one of parent cell(let's say 2n number of chromosomes) is halved using a specific form of division and the germ cell is produced (so after meiosis n number of chromosomes). This process takes place in both maternal and paternal cells.

The next process in reproduction would be fertilization, in this phase both the germ cells from maternal and paternal origins will combine together to form one cell which will be having the same number of chromosomes as in the parents(as in our example will have 2n after fertilization). So the normal number of chromosomes is restored in that progeny(The new cell or new organism) of a particular species. So ensuring the stability of DNA of the species.
