Given :  Each of the five friends L, M, N, O and P scored different marks in an examination.

The one who scored second highest marks scored 87%.

P scored 76% marks. Maximum marks of the examination are 100.

M scored more than P but less than N.

Only two people scored more than L.

P did not score the minimum marks.

To Find : Who  possibly scored 82% marks

Solution:

1        2        3        4         5

       87%

P = 76 %

P did not score the minimum marks

so two possible cases

case 1

1        2        3        4         5

       87%   76 %

                  P

case 2

1        2        3        4         5

       87%             76 %

                             P

Who  possibly scored 82% marks is the Question

Hence  case 1 not possible

so   only case 2 is possible

case 2

1        2        3        4         5

       87%   82%    76 %

       M        M       P

∵ M scored more than P but less than N

Only two people scored more than L Hence L must be 3

so

1        2        3        4         5

       87%   82%    76 %

N        M        L         P     O

So L possibly scored 82%

So, L scored 82% marks

Explanation:

Given condition:

1. Each of the five friends L, M, N, O and P scored different marks in an

   examination

2. The one who scored second highest marks scored 87%

3. P scored  76% marks.

4. Maximum marks of the examination are 100

5. M scored more than P  but less than N

6. Only two people scored more than L.

7. P did not score the  minimum marks.

To find:

Who among the following possibly scored 82% marks?

According to given Condition:

L, M, N, O, P

Second Highest marks is 87%

P Scored 76%

==>  M scored more than P  but less than N

==> N> M > P

==> Only two people scored more than L

==> The people must be N and M

==> Third people is L

==> N> M> L> P

==> P did not score the  minimum marks

==> So, gets the minimum marks

==> N> M> L> P >O

We know that p = 76

Second Highest marks is 87%

N = ?

M = 87

L = ?

P = 76

O = ?

82% is between M an p

It must be L

So, L scored 82% marks
