Given : Each pond is in the shape of a circle.

The radius of the large pond is 4 times the radius of the small pond.

To Find : which of the following statements is TRUE

The area of the large pond is 8 times the area of the small pond.

The area of the large pond is 16 times the area of the small pond.

The area of the large pond is 2 times the area of the small pond.

The area of the large pond is 4 times the area of the small pond:

Solution:

Radius of small pond  =  k

then Radius of large pond  = 4k

Area of circle  = π(radius)²

Area of  small pond = πk²

Area of large pond = π(4k)²  = 16πk²

Area of large pond = 16 x  Area of  small pond

The area of the large pond is 16 times the area of the small pond.
