the area of the border will be 1.53 m square.

original size of each side of the bed=2m 40cm=2.4m= original area = a square= 2.4 square = 5.76 metre square

since it is extended by adding a border of 15cm on each side, hence net increase in the side= 15+15=30cm=0.3m

hence

new side = 2.4 +0.3=2.7m

so the new increased area =2.7=7.29 m square

hence the area of the border = increased area - original area

=7.29-5.76

1.53m square
