let the side be x

increased side be x+10

area of first square = x*x = x²

area of increased side square = (x+10)²

A 10% increase is equivalent to 1.1 times of its current value. Reason: 10% increase = 100 + 10/100 = 110/100 = 1.1 times increase. Now the area of a square is directly proportional to the square of the side length.
