The area can be easily calculated when we find it's height.
In a equilateral ∆ the hight also acts as a median,it is because the height is perpendicular (90 degree) and hence the two ∆s formed inside the eq∆ are congruent
using Pythagoras theorem
4^2+x^2=8^2
x^2=36
x=6
which is heifht

Answer:

Here, a = 8 cm.

Area of the triangle

 = { \frac  { \sqrt{3} }{ \:  \: 4} }  \times  {a}^{2}  \:  \: sq.units

 =  \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{4}  \times 8 \times 8  \: {cm}^{2}  =  \: (16 \sqrt{3} )     {cm}^{2}

 = (16 \times 1.73) {cm}^{2}  = 27.68 \:  {cm}^{2}

Height of the triangle

 =  \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{2}  \times a \: units \:  = ( \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{2}  \times 8)cm

 = (4 \sqrt{3} )cm \:

 = (4 \times 1.73)cm = 6.92 \: cm

Hope it helps
