Each square of a chessboard has an area of 9 cm2 also the chessboard has a margin of 5 cm around it find the side of the chessboard

a chessboard has (8*8)64 boxes(squares)

given that each square has an area 9 cm square

hence side of each square=3cm.

as the chess board is square in shape it would have same number of columns as rows..... hence total boxes in each row =8 (becoz total boxes are 64 as mentioned above)

Now, (8 *3)=24cm is the side of chess board

but given that margin is made...

hence the margin would be added to all sides of the chess board

so a margin would be Added twice in a side... hence

margin=5 cm

hence 5*2 ie 10 would be added to 24( side of the chess without margin)

so ,

24+10= 34cm


hence side of chess board with margin=34 cm
