Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process.

Length of each side of one square of chessboard = √16 cm = 4 cm

Now, there are 8 squares in each side of the chessboard.

Length of one side of chessboard

= (8×length of each side of small sqaures) + (2× width of margin) [2× margin because margin is on the both sides]

= (8×4) + (2×3)

= 32+6

= 38 cm

Hence, length of each side of the chessboard is 38 cm.
