Dear Junaid,

◆ Answer -

Each unit cell of nacl consists of 14 Cl- atoms and

13 Na+ atoms.

◆ Explaination -

  • Sodium chloride has face centered cubic structure.
  • In this FCC, Na+ ions are present at body centre & edge centres and Cl- ions are present at face centres and body corners.
  • Like this in one unit of NaCl, 14 Cl- atoms and 13 Na+ atoms are present.

Hope this helped you.

Answer: 13 Na+

Explanation:

In a unit cell Cl- ions occupy all the centres of six faces and eight corners so there will be 14 chloride ions, where as one sodium ion is present at the centre of body and twelve sodium ions are present at all the twelve edges so total there will be 13 Na+ ions.
