Curzon was eldest and second son of 11 children of Alfred Curzon 4th Baron Scarsdale.
Rector of Kedleston in Derbyshire and wife Blanche and daughter of Joseph Pocklington Senhouse of Netherhall in Cumberland.
Born at Kedleston Hall which is built on site where his family of Norman ancestry had lived from 12th century.
His mother worned out by childbirth died when George was 16 and her husband survived 41 years.
Neither parent exerted major influence on Curzon's life.
