Earth is like a magnet because it has North pole and South pole in which magnetic field is caused by electric currents in the liquid outer core. Earth's magnetic field makes charged particles from the sun move aside and not penetrate the earth's atmosphere
The Earth has a magnetic field which is produced deep in the interior by electrical currents in the molten part of the core. At the surface of the Earth and beyond the magnetic field is weak. So it does not attract metals how magnet attracts
