【Earth Magnetism】

Why the angle of dip is 0° at the equator whereas at north pole it is 180°? if compass is in the direction north-south then how 0° and 180° is possible?

I know physics is not everyone's cup of tea, so you can just be aside if not sure about your answer, rather than spamming.

Answer:

Angle of dip at earth magnetic dipole

Solution:  It is a fact that the angle of dip at magnetic pole of earth of earth is 900

But remember that, at south magnetic pole it is -900 & at north magnetic pole it is +900

Hence the correct answer is C

Answer:

Since angle of dip at a place is defined as the angle δ, which is the direction of total intensity of earth's magnetic field R makes with a horizontal line in magnetic meridian,

At poles B=B

V

and B

V

=Bsinδ

∴sinδ=1⇒δ=90

o

At equator B=B

H

and B

H

=Bcosδ

∴cosδ=1⇒δ=0

o
