Communication Breakdown

A communication breakdown is defined as a failure to exchange information, resulting in a lack of communication.

They happen every day in business, and wherever we are and whatever we're working on and they get in the way, causing frustration, in varying degrees.

It happens every time a communicator miscommunicates what they are really trying to say, and/or the hearer misunderstands and misinterprets what has been communicated. It is important to remember all sides of a communication breakdown, those who communicated and those who were communicated to.

To avoid communication breakdowns,

  • Use a common language for communication between all parties to evade being 'lost in translation'.
  • Do not hesitate to ask questions and encourage others to do the same!
  • Avoid excessive and unrequired information.
  • Have clarity of thought before speaking out.
  • Take care of your body language and tone.

Effective communication without any communication breakdown builds strong business and personal relationships and allowing you to understand exactly what people want and how to give it to them. At the same time, it allows you to know how to communicate your thoughts and emotions in ways that people we automatically understand at an unconscious level.

Hope this helps you!
