"Pune receives more rainfall than the easter side of Western Ghats because Pune lies on the western coastal plains.
Since the western coastal plains are on the windward side of the Western Ghats, receiving tons of rainfall from the south westerlies rainbearing winds unlike the eastern plains which lie on the leeward side of the Western Ghats.
The western coastal plains extend between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats and states such as Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra along with Gujarat at the northern border and Kerala on the Southern border lie belong to the western coastal plains."
