THERE ARE A LOT OF WAYS TO SOLVE A QUADRATIC EQUATION USING THE COMPLETING THE SQUARE METHOD...BUT THIS IS THE EASY WAY TO COMPLETE AN EASY EQUATION:

Example 1: Solve the quadratic equation 2x2 + 8x – 10 = 0 by completing the square.

 Divide both sides of the equation by 2 then simplify.

2x^2 + 8x – 10 = 0 → (2x^2+8x-10)/2=0/2

→x^2+4x-5=0

Add 5 to both sides of the equation then simplify.

x^2+4x-5=0→x^2+4x-5+5=0+5

→x^2+4x=5

Add to both sides of the equation the square of one-half of 4.

1/2(4)=2→2^2=4

x^2+4x=5→x^2+4x+4=5+4

x^2+4x+4=9

Express x^2+4x+4=9 as a square of a binomial.

x^2+4x+4=9→(x+2)^2=9

Solve (x+2)^2=9 by extracting the square root.

√((x+2)^2 )=±√9→x+2=±3

Solve the resulting linear equations by separating the signs.

x+2=3"          ;     " x+2=-3

x=3-2"          ;     " x=-3-2

x=1"                ;     x"="-5"

Answer: the equation 2x2+8x-10 = 0 has two solutions: x =1 and x = -5.
