Going overboard with carbs can cause you to exceed your overall daily calorie allotment, which in turn leads to weight gain. Carbs -- especially those that are unhealthy -- don't promote satiety as well as protein, according to a review published in 2008 in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.” Fiber-rich carbs – such as fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains -- are more satiating than refined grains and added sugars – including sweets, sodas, white rice and white bread. Therefore, steer clear of unhealthy carbs as much as possible to avoid unwanted weight gain.
