Economically the position of Muslim women was much better than that of the Hindu women in the society earlier. The Muslim ladies were entitled to a definite share in the inheritance and were free to dispose of the same as they liked. This right was retained by them even after their marriage which was not same for all.

According to the Muslim law the ladies retained a right to her husband’s parents The Hindu ladies did not have any share in the property although they possessed movable property like ornaments, jewellery etc.
