the British rulers are transformed India into a Colony and exploited the economy to their advantage. the British took away the raw materials from India to run their industries in England at cheaper rates and dump all the finished goods into Indian market. they took steps for avoiding competition for their goods and services from Indian entrepreneurs and small scale artisans . especially the British imposed strict restrictions on the Indian Cottage and household artisans . as a consequence most of the Indian artisans give up their profession and shifted to agriculture which was already over burden . some of the artisans have migrated to Overseas as syllabus braving the oceans. Dadabhai naoroji had explained this exploitation in his book" poverty and unbritish rule in India" in which he described the forms of exploitation as drain theory . this exploitation has caused Hanger among small scale Enterprises industrialist and rural artisans who participated actively in the freedom movement .
