1st - there are various species of green and brown algae that are eaten (sargassum,laminaria)

2nd - algae are the major sources of phycocolloids which have excellent water holding capacity.

3rd- they carry out major portion of photosynthesis

4th- red algae gives us carageen which is an important industrial component

5th- there are various medicinal as well as industrial applications of algae also

→ Algae means "sea weeds". They are mostly primitive, eukaryotic and thalloid organisms.

→ Algae are classified into :-

1) Red Algae = mostly found in marine water

2) Brown Algae = mostly found in marine water
