Many species are of economic importance, mostly as sources of food acquired through hunting or farming. Some species, particularly songbirds and parrots, are popular as pets. Other uses include the harvesting of guano (droppings) for use as a fertilizer. ... Many species of birds are also hunted for meat.
Ecological roles of birds..... As with other native organisms, birds help maintain sustainable population levels of their prey and predator species and, after death, provide food for scavengers and decomposers. Manybirds are important in plant reproduction through their services as pollinators or seed dispersers.
