Iron is a brittle, hard substance, classified as a metal in Group 8 on the Periodic Table of the Elements. The most abundant of all metals, its pure form rapidly corrodes from exposure to moist air and high temperatures.

Iron is the essential component of nature. Its uses are not limited. Some of the uses of Iron in our daily life are:

Foods and Medicines- Iron in red blood cells contains hemoglobin. In the medical field, various forms of iron are used in making medicines like ferrous sulfate, ferrous fumarate, etc.

Agriculture- Iron is an important component in plants. It acts as a micro-nutrient in plants and its deficiency may cause various diseases.

Utensils- Various utensils used in our homes are made up of stainless steel which is made from iron.

Automobiles- Most of the parts of automobiles are made up of iron, some of the parts like pistons, wires, wheels, bearings are made up of iron.
