A salt is formed between the reaction of an acid and a base. Usually, a neutral salt is formed when a strong acid and a strong base is neutralized in the reaction: H+ + OH- = H2O The bystander ions in an acid-base reaction form a salt solution.

Salt such as sodium chloride that can be made by combining a strong acid(HCL) with a strong base (Noah, koh) have a neutral ph,but these are exceptions to the general rule that solution of most salts are mildly acidic or alkaline . Salts of a strong base and weak acid yield alkaline solution .
