I would consider editing to be the correction and acknowledgement of mistakes in an essay or assignment. Where as revision would be improving and expanding on already edited ideas. For example, in order to have a second draft of my essay I would need to edit it to remove sentences that don"t make sense and add punctuation in places I forgot them. But when I go back to revise my draft I will be expanding and returning to ideas that I may or may not have included enough about.
