The root of evil is evil itself. I mean the determination of any person to have his desires met, regardless of the consequences to others. I will be king and all who oppose me shall die. I will have as much money, power, sex, etc as I want and no one will stop me. I don't care who gets hurt, I will have what I want. It can begin with something small; I am not going to pull to the end gas pump, I am going to use a handicapped parking place, I am going to get in the express lane, I am not going to share, I get the biggest piece of cake, I always go first... I'm sure you can see where this is going. The evil comes from a refusal to consider that others exist and have needs or rights, too
