In the early Vedic age , Gurukul system existed . The students used to go to the guru's house when they were small and used to learn eberything - ranging from warfare , astronomy , mathematics , science , etc. They lived in the guru's house and did all the household chores . At the end of their Gurukul life they used to pay some dakhshina as presents to guru for his dedication to them .
