. Sikkim is the northeastern state which is the least populous and second smallest state of India. As per the census 2011, the literacy rate in Sikkim is 82.2%. In 2001 Sikkim stood at 17th position in case of literacy whereas in 2011 Sikkim jumped to 13th position. The literacy rate os male population (both urban and rural) is 87.29%. On the other hand, the literacy rate of females in Sikkim (both urban and rural) is 76.43%.

Quality of Education in Sikkim -

Quality education has been the key concern and driver to the government’s policies in Sikkim. The Government of Sikkim has accorded highest priority to the education sector by providing an outlay of almost 20% of the state’s budget and records have shown that much progress has been achieved, manifesting in remarkable performances by the students. Sikkim has ranked 3rd in the national ranking on elementary education for the year 2013-14 as per flash statistics released by then HRD Minister Smt. Smriti Irani Hon’ble on June 18, 2014. The ranking was based on four parameters i.e. Accessibility, Infrastructure, Teacher and Outcome.
