Given:

(I) The Baker earns a profit of 4 on selling a pack of white bread

(ii) She also incurs a loss of 6 on selling a pack of brown bread

(iii) On Monday he incurred an overall loss of 100.

(iv) She sold 26 packs of white bread that day.

To find:

(I) Number of packs of brown bread sold.

Solution:

Let the cost of 1 pack of white bread be Rs x.

As he earns 4 on selling one pack, his

SP = Rs (x+4)

Let us consider the the cost of 1 pack of brown bread be Rs y.

As he suffers a loss of 6 on selling one pack, his

SP = Rs (y-6)

On Monday, she sold 26 packs of white bread.

Total CP = Rs 26x

Total SP = Rs 26(x+4)

Since SP>CP, she earns a profit.

Profit value = Rs [26x+104-26x]

= Rs 104

But overall she suffers Rs 100 loss.

So, value of loss on second transaction = Rs (104+100)

= Rs 204 loss .

She also sold some packs of brown bread too due to which her overall transaction had a loss of 100.

Let she sell 'z' packs of brown bread.

Total CP = Rs (zy)

Total SP =Rs z(y-6) = Rs (zy-6z)

As, SP<CP, she incurs a loss on this transaction.

Loss value = Rs (zy-zy+6z)

= Rs 6z

This is equal to Rs 204.

So, 6z = 204

=> z = 204/6

=> z = 34

So the Baker had bought 34 packets of brown bread on Monday.
