1. The word 'Mughal"is derived from the word Mongol. The Mughal empire was founded by Babur. Auragzeb's successors were the Later Mughals and they ruled for almost 150 years(1707-1857). Important among them were

Bahadur Shah I (1707-1712),Jahandar Shah(1712-1713),Farrukhsiyar(1713-1719) and Muhammad Shah (1719-1745).

2.The Sayyids at last in 1719 set up Muhammad Shah as the Emperor. As they were not the kings but they are the one who decided that who ll became Next king, that is the reason they are known as king makers.

3.The Mughals did not follow the system of primogeniture (where the eldest son gets the throne). They followed coparcenary inheritance (where the empire is equally divided among the sons). But this system resulted in many conflicts and rebellions within the family.

4.After the death of a Mughal ruler, generally there were wars of succession among rival claimants to the throne. These wars proved veiy costly and destructive. They drained the resources of the empire and made it instable and weak.

5.Foreign Invasion

A series of foreign invasions affected Mughal Empire very badly. Attacks by Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah Abdali, which were themselves the consequences of the weakness of the Empire, drained the Empire of its wealth, ruined its trade and industry in the North, and almost destroyed its military power.
