Effect of nitrogen environment on synthesis of nanoparticles
Answers
Nanoparticles are considered as the protagonist of the nanotechnology revolution. Inorganic nanoparticles like nitrogen are of special importance due to their role as major plant nutrient. In the present paper an eco-friendly approach for the synthesis of nitrogen nanoparticles was described by selecting a promising fungal isolate Aspergillus tubingenesis TFR-29. The synthesized nitrogen nanoparticles from precursor salt NH 4 NO 3 were characterized by standard techniques to confirm their size, shape, distribution and structure. The particles were hexagonal in shape with a size range of 1.0–2.0 nm with crystal structure and 96.3% purity. Assessment of biosynthesized nanoparticle as a source of plant nutrient was estimated. The optimum concentration of nanoparticle for foliar application of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum) was found at 80 ppm. A significant increase in beneficial enzymes (acid and alkaline phosphatases, esterase, and dehydrogenase) and microbial population (fungi, bacteria, actinomycetes, nitrosomonas, nitrobacter, azotobacter) was noticed with the application of optimum dose (80 ppm) at critical growth period (6 weeks). Application of 80 ppm concentration of nano-nitrogen on two weeks old pearl millet plant resulted in an appreciable improvement in root area (539%), root length (159%), root perimeter (46%), number of tips (14%), average root diameter (76%) and total biomass (157%). The result clearly demonstrated the possibility of biosynthesized nano-N for efficient use as nano-fertilizer.
