The properties of polymer/clay nanocomposites depend on the intercalated or exfoliated structures. In order to improve the intercalated or exfoliated structures of the nanocomposites, poly (lactic acid)/montmorillonite (PLA/MMT) nanocomposites were prepared by twin-screw extrusion. The effects of the addition of polycaprolactone (PCL), as a compatilizer, on the properties of PLA/MMT nanocomposites were studied. The morphology of the nanocomposites was characterized by XRD, DSC and TEM. The mechanical properties, thermal properties and rheology properties of the composites were also measured. The results showed that PCL can effectively increase the binding force between two phases and improve the order of the nanocomposites. Glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting point (Tm) of the nanocomposites have improved.
