Entamoeba histolytica is a parasitic protozoan that causes amoebic dysentery. It has two stages in life cycle- a cyst stage and a trophozoite stage. The cyst stage is infective while as trophozoite stage is invasive in nature.

The category B agent of bioterrorism,Entamoeba histolytica has a two-stagelife cycle: an infective cyst stage, and an invasive trophozoite stage. Due to our inability to effectively induce encystation in vitro, our knowledge about the cyst form remains limited
