Treaty of Salbai. The Treaty of Salbai was signed on 17 May 1782, by representatives of the Maratha Empire and the British East India Company after long negotiations to settle the outcome of the First Anglo-Maratha War.

The treaty of Salbai was approved by the Marathas and the English East India Company. The following are the outcome of this treaty:

1. Madhavrao Narayan was recognised as the Peshwa of the empire of Marathas.

2. The regional interests of Madhav Rao Scindia to the west of river Yamuna were approved by the British company.  

3. As a result of this treaty, Raghunath Rao was released and payment was assigned to him.  

4. In return to all these, the British company gained control of Salsette

5. British pledged to help Marathas if they attack Mysore and retake the provinces of Carnatic.
