Given :- Eight cubes of side 3cm each are placed end to end, four at the bottom and four on top as shown. find the surface area of cuboid so formed. ?

Solution :-

Dimensions of cuboid so formed are :-

  • Length = sum of sides of 4 identical cubes = 4 * 3 = 12 cm.
  • Breadth = side of cube = 3 cm.
  • Height = as four are on top , four at bottom , we get = 2 * 3 = 6 cm.

we know that,

  • surface area or total surface area of cuboid = 2(length * breadth + breadth * height + height * length) .

putting all values we get,

→ surface area = 2(12 * 3 + 3 * 6 + 6 * 12)

→ surface area = 2(36 + 18 + 72)

→ surface area = 2 * 126

→ surface area = 252 cm². (Ans.)

Hence, the surface area of cuboid so formed is 252 cm².
