The number.

Assume :

Let the number be "M"

Solution :

8 times of number (8M) is reduced by 10 (-10) ie equal to 6 times the number (6M) and 4.

According to question,

\Rightarrow\:8M\:-\:10\:=\:6M\:+\:4 _____ (eq 1)

\Rightarrow\:8M\:-\:6M\:=\:4\:+\:10

\Rightarrow\:2M\:=\:14

✯ Verification :

From above calculations we have M = 7

Put value of M in (eq 1)
