Let the number be "M"

Solution :

8 times of number (8M) is reduced by 10 (-10) ie equal to 6 times the number (6M) and 4.

According to question,

$\Rightarrow\:8M\:-\:10\:=\:6M\:+\:4$ _____ (eq 1)

$\Rightarrow\:8M\:-\:6M\:=\:4\:+\:10$

$\Rightarrow\:2M\:=\:14$

$\Rightarrow\:M\:=\:\dfrac{14}{2}$

$\Rightarrow\:\boxed{M\:=\:7}$

∴ Number is 7.
