Length of rectangular room = 8 m

Breadth of rectangular room = 6 m

Radius of the rug = 2 m

TO FIND

Area where the rug is not laid

SOLUTION

Area of rectangular room = L × B

= ( 8 × 6 )m^2 = 48m^2

Now, the rug is in the shape of a circle.

So, area of rug = 22 / 7 × r^2

= (22 / 7 × 2 × 2)m^2

= 12.57 m^2

The area where the rug is not laid =

(Area of rectangular room - area of rug)

= ( 48 - 12.57 )m^2

= 35.43 m^2 (^ means square)
