Thanks for the question!!!
If son-in-law arrives on 3rd day, he can get ring with 1 & 2 grams.
If son-in-law arrives on 15th day, he will be given ring with 1, 2, 4, 8 grams.
If son-in-law visits on 30th day, he will get ring with 2, 4, 8, 16 grams.
So,rings with weight 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 grams will be made and the combination of these five numbers will give all date range from 1-31 of any month.
Following are the date-wise combination of rings--
1 = 1
2 = 2
3 = 2+1
4 = 4
5 = 4+1
6 = 4+2
7 = 4+2+1
8 = 8
9 = 8+1
10 = 8+2
11 = 8+2+1
12 = 8+4
13 = 8+4+1
14 = 8+4+2
15 = 8+4+2+1
16 = 16
17 = 16+1
18 = 16+2
19 = 16+2+1
20 = 16+4
21 = 16+4+1
22 = 16+4+2
23 = 16+4+2+1
24 = 16+8
25 = 16+8+1
26 = 16+8+2
27 = 16+8+2+1
28 = 16+8+4
29 = 16+8+4+1
30 = 16+8+4+2
31 = 16+8+4+2+1
Therefore, the goldsmith made five rings of 1,2,4,8,16 grams, and counted 31 grams of gold in it.
It is a very simple riddle that can be easily solved.
