The Female Reproductive System
It consists of following parts :
Ovaries
Fallopian tubes
Uterus
Vagina
Vulva
Female Reproductive glands.
1. Ovaries
These are the primary sex organs of female. These are one pair small sized almond shaped present in the pelvis of abdomen, one on either side of uterus. So ovaries are abdominal in position.
2. Fallopian tubes or Oviducts
These are one pair of elongated ciliated muscular and tubular structures extending from just close to ovaries to uterus. The outer part of each Fallopian tube lying close to ovary has a Wide aperture called Ostium and a number of finger like process is called Fimbria to receive the ovum released from the ovary.
3. Uterus or Womb
It is large sized muscular and pear shaped structure which extends backward from service of uterus and finally opens outside by vaginal aperture in the Vestibule.
4. Vagina
It is a long muscular and tubular structures which extends backward from services of uterus and finally opens outsides by vaginal aperture in the Vestibule.
5. Vulva
It is external genitalia of female. It has a depression called vestibule, two pairs of labia and pibic hair. Vestibule has separate urinary aperture and vaginal opening.
6. Female Reproductive glands
In human female there are two types of reproductive glands :
- Bartholin's glands.
- Mammary glands.
NOTE : Reproductive cycle in female primates (Monkey, ape and human) is called Menstrual Cycle.
In human female, one menstrual cycle is completed in about 28-29 days starting from first day of menstruation till the next one.
